You may vacuum daily and mop your floors weekly. But, how often to do you clean your walls and ceilings? These are two of the most neglected spots for cleaning and maintenance in the house. It may seem like a gruesome task, but it doesn’t have to be. Here are five ways to maintain the appearance of your walls and ceilings.

Repaint. This is a no-brainer. Over time, paint begins to fade, and colors can become outdated. The expert Syracuse, NY painters say you can plan to repaint your walls and ceilings every 3 to 5 years. If you’re planning to sell your house, consider painting the walls a neutral color that’s more appealing to potential buyers. When you decide to repaint your walls, take that time to repaint your ceiling as well.
Remove dust. It’s not just the baseboards and furniture that acquire dust. Your walls and ceilings can also be a breeding ground for dust bunnies and dirt. Because some of these spots are hard to reach, you can use a broom or a duster with a long handle. You can also dampen a cloth with water and soap and wipe it along your walls for a quick fix.
Take a risk. Wallpaper is making a comeback. Naples, Fl., interior decorator Claudia Leah says you should choose a wallpaper in a bold pattern to make a statement and create a new focal point in your home. Wallpaper works in a variety of rooms and can be professionally installed if you don’t want to do-it-yourself.
Remove stains. Promptly remove any stains on your walls to ensure they don’t settle. Whether the stain is from food splashing on the walls while you’re cooking or your child decides your walls are a blank canvas for their aspiring art dreams, test magic erasers, baby wipes, hair spray, and vinegar to see what works best in removing the stain.
Settle for one spot at a time. Maybe you don’t want to clean your entire house in one go-around. That’s fine! Choose areas in your home which have the most foot traffic and are more prone to dirt and dust. For example, if you have a lot of photos hanging in your family room, wipe them down. Don’t forget the baseboards, especially behind furniture.

Don’t neglect your walls and ceilings any longer! Choose one or two of the projects above and you’ll be able to refresh your home in no time.
